A Weekend of Innovation and Learning at 100% Optical
Posted: 10/03/2025
100% Optical, held at the ExCeL London, is one of the most anticipated events in the optical industry, bringing together professionals from all corners of the field. From the latest in eyewear fashion to cutting-edge advancements in contact lenses and hearing care technology, this event is a hub of innovation, education, and networking.
Around the exhibition and in lectures were Rawlings staff from nearly all of our branches – it’s great to know they are so passionate about the industry (or perhaps it was just a chance to catch up with old friends!)
Discovering the Latest in Equipment and Eyewear
One of the most exciting aspects of 100% Optical is the exhibition space, where leading companies showcase the latest innovations in optical technology. We had the opportunity to get hands-on with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, such as next-generation optical coherence tomography (OCT) machines that provide incredibly detailed imaging—helping detect eye diseases earlier and more accurately than ever before. Using these instruments in all our branches over the past few years has made us keen to see what the next developments will be – and it seems AI will be playing a big part in furthering OCT diagnostic capabilities which will enable us to help our patients to an even greater extent.
Of course, no optical event would be complete without a deep dive into eyewear trends with brands like Eyewear by David Beckham, Dita, Gotti, and more on display. From sleek designer frames to budget-friendly everyday options, there was something for every taste and lifestyle. Fun was had trying on some of the wackier style glasses available and the catwalk shows were not to be missed!
The Future of Contact Lenses
Contact lens technology is advancing at an impressive pace, and 100% Optical was the perfect platform to explore these innovations. Companies showcased lenses designed for maximum comfort, featuring moisture-retaining technologies for all-day wearability. Speciality lenses also took centre stage, with new developments in myopia control and keratoconus management providing more tailored solutions for patients with specific vision needs.
Connecting with Industry Peers and Continuing Education
Beyond the impressive product displays and equipment demonstrations, one of the best aspects of 100% Optical was the opportunity to connect with fellow professionals via educational sessions. Sharing experiences, discussing challenges, and learning from each other not only fosters growth but also strengthens the optical community. Whether it was catching up with old colleagues or forging new professional relationships, networking was an invaluable part of the weekend, both inside and outside the learning spaces. Round table peer reviews, discussions, workshops and lectures were all on offer. One of the most notable was from Nishani Amerasinge, one of our local glaucoma consultants (and immediate past president of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society) who delivered a lecture on one of the most common pathology combinations we see – cataracts & glaucoma - which was extremely useful. With an educational programme spreading over the whole weekend, there were lots of opportunities for our attendees to gain sought after CPD points!
Wrapping Up an Inspiring Event
An annual event, 100% Optical is always an enriching experience filled with learning, discovery, and inspiration. From gaining CPD points to exploring groundbreaking technologies and eyewear trends, the event reinforces the importance of continuous education and innovation in the optical industry. As technology and patient needs continue to evolve, staying ahead of the curve is key—and events like this ensure that we are ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow head-on!
