I had my annual eye test on 7th February. A professional service, very thorough and was advised as we went along. With a history of glucoma in the family, a detailed examination thankfully showed an all clear. Having had two catatract operations, the check on that revealed the need for a common follow up *procedure, which was booked in straight away.
*The procedure is very straightforward and takes minutes.

It was the same shop, but with a new name. As an existing customer, I felt it was OK to go with the change and see how things turned out and my mother, who is 101 years young, was happy to proceed. Things turned out very well indeed. A very thorough eye test, with the optician explaining everything as we went along. Reassuringly, he knew the consultant at Moorfields, where my mother is treated for glaucoma. I do feel continuity is important. A good result too, for mum, with everything being stable and no changes needed. My own eye test is due in January, so entirely relaxed about it.

I am extremely happy that I chose Rawlings Opticians & Hearing Care in Banstead. There is a welcoming atmosphere, with skilled staff to carry out eye and hearing tests in a professional and unhurried manner. Simon (optician) thoroughly examined my eyes, including behind the lenses and went on to explain everything about their condition. Anthony (Optician and practice manager) helped me choose the correct spectacle frames and advised me of the further services I would receive as their patient. My glasses were ready to collect the following day. Wow!
Because I knew my difficulties with hearing, Jessica (hearing care specialist) syringed my ears and then tested them for audio levels and took great care to assist me in selecting the correct aids for my ears. Jessica's services will continue until I am confident to manage the aids to their optimum levels.

Annual visit the usual excellent service I class this as my face jewellery time. Eye testing very thorough attention to detail spot on. Selection of glasses seem to have broadened to offer a cheaper range this visit. I prefer a more expensive frame so they last longer and take 3-4 lens changes and still look like new. Big thank you to the team good glasses are essential I value their efforts.

A very warm welcome greeted me on entering the shop.
I have been wearing glasses since I was 16 years old …nearly 50 years.
I was happy to pay for an extended eye test.Covering pressures and back of eye scan.
I was comfortable in the fact that I was in the hands of a professional.I was also happy to learn that my eyes were healthy .

Very good experience when purchasing prism glasses. These were to replace distance glasses with a temporary prism patch, following the onset of double vision. The new glasses were excellent, with no etched lines, as had the patch, and I was very pleased with the service I received from Eye-Care in Banstead.

Absolutely amazing service. I have always used specsavers for myself and my older daughter however my youngest was referred through school. The optician was so professional, friendly and patient with my almost 5 year old who is extremely shy and struggles talking to new people, she also struggles to concentrate for long periods of time, the optician was amazing with her and made her feel comfortable.

I’ve been a member of the Rawlings Opticians & Hearing Care team for the entirety of my working life.

Since joining at the age of 18, the business has provided mentorship, nurtured me, and seen me through from being an Optical Assistant to a Qualified Dispensing Optician, and now to a Practice Manager.

For me, working in optics requires a unique blend of know-how in science, business, and fashion. It presents unique challenges every day, and that’s what I love about it.

I’m very excited to be leading our newly opened Banstead Practice, where our mission is to achieve perfection in every pair! (Hearing aids or spectacles!)

We have something for everyone, whether it be designer label frames, exclusive boutique brands, or functional frames specialising in their durability.

I’m very proud to represent such a historic, family-owned business.

In my free time, I love to cook, I’m an avid motorsports and car fanatic, and I’ve played the guitar and drums since I was a boy.

I graduated from Ulster University with a first-class honours degree in 2011. I made the move to England to complete my pre-registration period in West Sussex and joined Rawling’s in late 2014. The years have flown by and I have progressed a lot since joining the company.

I’m often based at the Banstead branch, where I enjoy seeing our regular loyal patient base. This branch is actively involved in local shared care schemes in conjunction with the NHS. This allows us to see and treat patients with minor eye conditions without them seeing their GP or the hospital eye service. I find this area challenging and rewarding as I come across some very interesting ocular cases along with meeting new people.

I am also keen on offering additional services such as myopia management and am fortunate to have access to myopia management spectacles, soft contact lenses along with the ability to perform orthokeratology, all of which have been a great success. I like to keep up to date with advances in the optical industry along with technology and attend regular training events and conferences.

In my spare time, I enjoy relaxing with friends, keeping fit in the gym along with heading back to Ireland to visit family.

My career has taken a few different paths, but each one has helped shape the clinician I am today.

I originally trained as a musician and recording engineer, completing my first degree in Sound Engineering for Film and Television. I then spent six years working with some of the UK’s major broadcasters, including Sky and the BBC. After moving to Sydney, Australia, with my wife, I taught music to children across New South Wales before returning to the UK to pursue a career in healthcare.

After completing my second degree, graduating with a distinction in Audiology from De Montfort University, I began working in private practice, helping patients with a wide range of hearing and balance needs. Since then, I have continued to develop my clinical skills, with additional training in tinnitus management, speech and language therapy, and Aston University-accredited microsuction wax removal.

I have been helping patients with their hearing care since 2016 and remain passionate about continuing my professional development so I can provide the highest standard of care. I believe in being honest and transparent, helping patients understand their options and supporting them to make informed decisions about their hearing health. I also enjoy using the wide range of advanced diagnostic equipment available at Rawlings to ensure every patient receives the most appropriate assessment and care.

Outside work, I enjoy travelling, hiking, discovering new whiskies, learning foreign languages and exploring a wide range of music and films.
