November – Careers month part two: Ant

Posted: 15/11/2023

Anthony is our second careers story for the month: Anthony is one of our Student Dispensing Opticians who is based in Caterham. Ant is a lovely character and a massive asset to our team, who we know will do amazing things! Good luck on your exams, Ant!

"I first started at Rawlings in 2019, after finishing my A-Levels. I’d decided that university wasn’t the route I wanted to take and preferred to head straight into the world of full time work. My first role at Rawlings was as an Optical Assistant in our Caterham branch, manning the reception desk. I enjoyed this role as you were the first point of contact for patients as they phoned to book appointments or arrived for their sight tests. Often with complex enquiries and requests, communication was key! Then, in late 2020, I started to progress into a Dispensing Assistant role, helping patients choose fashionable frames and making lens recommendations to best suit their needs. It was whilst I was doing this that I realised that Optics was an industry I was really interested in. It combines all of the subjects I love: maths, science and business. To be able to use all of these to help people every day is something I still feel lucky to be my career. Fast forward to today, and I’m going into my third and final year as a Student Dispensing Optician, ready to become fully qualified by Summer 2024. I work between all our Surrey branches and have met amazing people along the way.

I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without the support, and the investment Rawlings have placed in my progression. Over the past four years, I’ve truly felt like a valued part of the team!" - Anthony Neale.

This month and every month all our staff are important and a vital part of what makes us a family at Rawlings.
