What Happens During a Contact Lens Assessment?

During your contact lens assessment, we’ll examine the health of your eyes and recommend the most appropriate lenses for your needs. As an independent optician, we work with a wide range of manufacturers — so you get the best lenses for your eyes, not just what’s in stock.

We’re also proud to be both an Acuvue® Centre of Excellence and a Visionary Practice with Coopervision, which gives us early access to the latest contact lens technologies.

The cost of your initial contact lens assessment covers:

  • Initial Fitting and Assessment
  • Handling & Hygiene
  • Trial lenses to take away and try in your own environment
  • Follow up appointment

(See our fees page for full pricing and see below for more details)

Contact Lens Initial Assessment & Fitting Appointment

  • Full eye and ocular health assessment
  • Corneal and tear film measurements
  • Detailed discussion of which lens type will best suit your vision and lifestyle
  • Trial lens fitting to assess initial comfort and vision (may be on another day if special orders are needed)
  • Lens fit and visual performance evaluation

Handling & Hygiene Appointment

In your dedicated teaching session (approx. 20–40 mins), we’ll cover:

  • How to apply and remove lenses
  • Wearing schedules and lens care
  • Proper hygiene, cleaning, and storage
  • What to do — and not do — when wearing lenses
  • Free trial lenses and cleaning solutions (where applicable)

Follow-Up Appointment

Please wear your trial lenses for at least 3 hours before your follow-up.

During this visit, we will:

  • Recheck the fit and vision
  • Assess your eyes’ response to lens wear
  • Make any necessary adjustments
  • Schedule a further trial if changes are required (no extra fee if you join our Rawlings Vision Plan)

What Happens After the Trial?

Once the trial is complete, we’ll discuss:

  • Whether you’d prefer every-day or part-time wear
  • Scheduling of aftercare appointments
  • Whether you’d like to join our Rawlings Vision Plan — a monthly direct debit scheme that includes:
    • All contact lens aftercare appointments
    • Routine eye examinations
    • Discounts on contact lenses, glasses, and sunglasses
