Comprehensive Eye Examinations by Expert Optometrists

Our Optometrists provide thorough eye examinations that go far beyond simply checking your glasses or contact lens prescription. Your eye health deserves time and attention, which is why we never rush. We feel that ten or fifteen minutes is simply not long enough for a full examination of an adult’s eyes and prefer our Optometrists to take the time needed to give you a comprehensive consultation -it’s a detailed assessment tailored to your needs.

Booking an appointment

You can call us to book at your local branch or arrange online. For the most detailed health check, always select an Enhanced Eye Examination which will include OCT eye scanning.

What to Expect During Your Eye Test

Your appointment begins with a discussion about your vision, any concerns you may have, and your visual environment—both at work and at home. We’ll also consider any relevant health conditions that may affect your eyesight. You can choose a comprehensive examination which includes the latest healthcare OCT scans for the most detailed examination, or a more basic sight test. (An NHS Sight Test can have these detailed scans added on – just ask when you book). Please bring any glasses that you currently use and details of any medications.

A comprehensive eye examination includes:

  • Taking a thorough symptoms and history and discussion of any issues with your eyesight
  • Assessing your prescription for glasses or contact lenses
  • Checking your eye health, including screening for glaucoma
  • Evaluating muscle balance and binocular vision
  • Conducting additional tests as needed, such as visual field tests
  • OCT or retinal photography, available at all Rawlings branches
  • A discussion of the findings and provision of your prescription and recommendations
  •

Clear Results and Personalised Advice

At the end of your examination, your optometrist will explain the results and provide clear recommendations. Whether you need new glasses, treatment, or simply a routine check-up, you’ll leave feeling informed and supported.

Our expert dispensing staff are then available to help you choose the right frames and lenses to match your prescription, lifestyle, and style preferences.

NHS-Funded Eye Examinations

Many of our patients qualify for a free eye examination under the NHS (this is a standard check without additional health tests such as OCT or photography), including:

  • Children and young people under 19 in full-time education
  • Adults over 60
  • Individuals with specific medical or eye conditions or a first degree relative with glaucoma
  • Those with limited income or receiving certain benefits

If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, simply contact your nearest Rawlings practice and we’ll be happy to advise.
