Support Hannah in Raising Funds for
Nystagmus Research

Hannah's Story

Hannah was diagnosed with Nystagmus at just six months old.

Throughout her life, the Nystagmus Network has provided guidance, reassurance and community for both Hannah and her family.

After recently undergoing successful null point correction surgery, Hannah experienced life-changing improvements. This inspired her to give something back by raising awareness and funds for the charity that supported her journey.

The Walk 500 Challenge

Hannah’s challenge, “The Walk 500,” will see her complete 500 walking miles throughout 2026 alongside friends and family.

The challenge will include a number of long-distance walks, including:

  • Climbing Snowdon
  • Multiple endurance walks across the year

Every mile will be tracked via GPS to document progress along the way.

Hannah hopes to raise £5,000 for the Nystagmus Network, helping fund:

  • Research
  • Specialist equipment
  • Initiatives supporting people living with nystagmus

The 500-mile distance also symbolises the approximate journey between the UK’s leading nystagmus research centres, highlighting the importance of continued research and collaboration.

Understanding Nystagmus

Nystagmus is a lifelong eye condition that causes involuntary, repetitive eye movements, often described as “wobbling” or “flickering.”

These movements can affect:

  • Vision clarity
  • Focus
  • Depth perception

As a result, everyday tasks such as reading, recognising faces, or maintaining eye contact can become more challenging.

Some people with nystagmus may:

  • Adopt a specific head position to improve visual clarity
  • Experience light sensitivity
  • Have balance difficulties
