2021 New Year & New Initiatives

Posted: Wednesday 6th January 2021

I think we are all happy to see the back of 2020 although one tiny bit of positivity is that the lockdowns forced us all to slow down a little and feel more integrated with our immediate area. Now we all ‘live like locals’ this includes shopping locally and supporting independent retailers, many of whom are struggling for survival after the ravages of 2020.

As an independent opticians forced to stop routine eyecare and spectacle/sunglasses sales during the first lockdown, we appreciate how difficult 2020 was for retailers who do not have our healthcare element which allowed us to keep running relatively ‘normally’ through the latter half of 2020. With the exception of what feels like endless cleaning and PPE changes, most of our working day has resumed as usual thanks to the hard work and commitment of all our staff.

At the time of writing we have just begun a new national lockdown. However we are still open to offer essential eyecare, emergency eyecare, and routine appointments where capacity allows. Keep an eye on our website for the most up to date information regarding our opening hours and services.

Towards the end of 2020 we were able to largely catch up on our backlog of outstanding appointments in most of our branches placing us in a good position to help both NHS and private patients further by running shared care schemes to ease the burden on hospitals.

You can help by accepting shared care if offered appointments outside a hospital – after all it may be more convenient and quicker to be seen at your local opticians. Most of us would like to stay away from hospitals at the moment!

So, you can help the NHS as described above, you can help independent retailers like Donner Optometrists by continuing to ‘shop independent’ throughout 2021 and onwards. Furthermore, you can help yourself by getting vaccinated and making small changes to your daily routine to reduce your risk of illness – click on this link to find out more: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/

Here’s to a happier, healthier 2021!
