Contact Lens Assessment
Contact lenses are available for almost all prescriptions and can be worn by adults and children alike, in fact 98% of spectacle wearers are suitable for contact lenses!
In a Contact Lens Assessment we assess the health of your eyes relating to potential contact lens wear and advise you on the most appropriate lenses for your requirements. As we are independent opticians we use lenses from many manufacturers and are not restricted to a limited range; this means our contact lens opticians can offer you the best products to suit your eyes. As an Acuvue Centre of Excellence we often have products utilising the newest technologies in advance of other opticians. Your contact lens trial will consist of the following:Initial assessment appointment
- Examination of the ocular surface and lids
- Assessment of the tear film
- Corneal measurements
- Discussion of appropriate lens types according to results of above
- Application of trial lenses to assess immediate tolerance (occasionally this may need to be booked as a separate appointment if trial lenses need to be specially ordered)
- Vision assessment with lenses
- Fit assessment
Contact Lens handling and hygiene
- Teaching session lasting approx 20-40 minutes
- Lens application and removal technique
- Wearing instructions / lens care / cleaning where necessary
- Solutions and hygiene advice
- Contact lens 'do's and don'ts'
- Issue of trial lenses to take away to be worn in your own environment and trial pack of solutions where necessary
Follow-up appointment
- Lenses should be worn to this appointment (wear at least 3 hours before attending)
- Review of fit and vision, refinement where necessary
- If any changes are made a further appointment may be necessary which will be covered by the fee paid at the initial appointment
- Subsequent appointments for further adjustments or trying other lens types are free if you join our Rawlings Vision Plan, otherwise the usual fees apply per appointment `
At the end of this consultation period we will discuss whether you prefer to wear lenses on an 'every day' or 'part-time' basis. You may then choose to take advantage of the Rawlings Vision Plan, which is our monthly direct debit scheme offering discounts on both contact lenses and spectacles, and covers all future contact lens aftercare appointments and eye examinations. The cost of a contact lens assessment (see our fees page) covers all of the above including the trial lenses supplied.
