Give your glasses some LOVE this Valentines Day

You will have invested time choosing your perfect glasses so give them some love by keeping them in tip-top condition!

  • Rinse dirty glasses off with water before wiping or cleaning them. If tiny particles of dust/dirt or grime have settled on the lenses, they could scratch them if the lens is dry when you rub them with a cleaning cloth without rinsing first.
  • Only ever use specialist cleaners to clean your glasses – don’t use household sprays or washing up liquid as these can damage any surface treatments on your lenses which typically are only a fraction of a micron thick. At Rawlings Opticians & Hearing Care we have environmentally friendly cleaning spray – simply buy the bottle once and we will refill it for free for the lifetime of the bottle!
  • If you have time, allow your glasses to air dry. If you can't, wipe them down with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth.
  • Never use paper towels, tissue, or napkins to dry your lenses. All of these materials, regardless of how soft they feel on your skin, have a textured surface and could scratch your lenses.
  • Don’t use your shirt or jumper either! The fibres in the fabric will cause scratches and any dirt on the clothing or even fabric conditioner residue could make your glasses dirtier not cleaner!
  • Whilst you are cleaning them, hold your frames by gripping the piece that crosses the bridge of the nose to stop you accidently bending the frame while you clean.
  • Keep your glasses in their case whilst you aren’t wearing them. This will stop the dust collecting but also protect them from accidental breakage.
  • Always put your glasses down lens side up as even if you are gentle, over time this will damage the surface.

Following these tips will extend the life of your glasses – and you will see more clearly through them too!

Happy Valentines Day to all our patients
